Fear the Gap
The number one threat posed by quantum computing’s day of arrival is the theoretical ability to crack the code on public key cryptography. Presuming nation-states will have the technology first, if we, the public, have not strengthened our cryptographic systems with longer keys and quantum-resistant algorithms, to keep it simple, the threat will span public-key, symmetric, and hashing cryptographic functions. Much to do and a long way to go in this race with a not-so-certain finish line.
