Quantum Computing Cloud. Harvard’s John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences researchers have shifted the frequency of photons using microwaves. Using a molecule-like photonic system built with lithium niobate on a chip, the team demonstrated that light’s frequency and phase could be controlled by programmable microwave signals. Further, the team was able to show on-demand optical storage and retrieval using the photonic molecule. The team’s goal is to “achieve a quantum link between microwave and optical photons.” Such an achievement would realize a network of quantum computers connected with quantum-secure links – a quantum computing cloud.
