The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and IBM Plan to Launch New Discovery Accelerator Institute | IBM and The Grainger College of Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign plan to launch a large-scale collaboration designed to increase access to technology education and skill development, and to combine the strengths of academia and the industrial sector to spur breakthroughs in emerging areas of technology. DOD asks for $112B in R&D funding in budget request | Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told lawmakers Thursday that the budget announced Friday would have “the largest ever request for [research, development, test and evaluation] for the development of technologies.” + “Our effort is to make sure that we have the ability to leverage quantum computing, AI [and] space-based platforms,” he told the House Appropriations Defense Subcommittee. Council agreement secures EU financing of high performance computing | The Council today agreed on a general approach on the proposed regulation establishing the European High Performance Computing joint undertaking. The draft regulation, which replaces the existing one, has been aligned to the EU’s multiannual financial framework for the years 2021-2027, thus making it possible for the joint undertaking to use funding from EU programmes, such as Horizon Europe, Digital Europe and the Connecting Europe Facility. IIT Madras to collaborate with IBM on quantum computing | Indian Institute of Technology Madras announced its collaboration with IBM on education and research for quantum computing. The collaboration is anticipated to accelerate the two organization’s collaborative research in quantum computing, enhancing curricula to prepare the future workforce.
