Quantum Computing Enables Unprecedented Materials Science Simulations | Researchers have for the first time used a quantum computer to generate accurate results from materials science simulations that can be verified with practical techniques. The team used a form of quantum computing called quantum annealing. This approach uses quantum physics to simplify a computer model. The team overcame quantum hardware limitations by programming various parameters into a materials science model. Next, they embedded the model into team member D-Wave’s 2000Q quantum computer.  Source: ENERGY.GOV.   Quantum Computing Enables Unprecedented Materials Science Simulations…

Entanglement Installation Arrives at the MAH in Santa Cruz | Entanglement’, the first-ever live experience of Entanglement-at-Large, is coming to the Museum of Art and History in Santa Cruz, California this fall for Frequency, a biennial festival of light, sound, and digital culture. Designed by The Epicenter, ‘Entanglement’ uses lasers and sound to create a space for authentic self-expression where the impact of our behavior is instantaneously felt.  Source: CISION.   Entanglement Installation Arrives at the MAH in Santa Cruz…

Winner of 2020 Journal of Mathematical Physics Young Researcher Award Announced | AIP Publishing has named Andrew Lucas winner of the 2020 Journal of Mathematical Physics Young Researcher Award. The award, which comes with a $3,000 cash prize, will be presented to Lucas at the 2021 International Congress of Mathematical Physics (ICMP) in Geneva on August 4 in recognition of his 2020 paper, “Non-perturbative dynamics of the operator size distribution in the Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev model.”  Source: CISION.   Winner of 2020 Journal of Mathematical Physics Young Researcher Award Announced…

Test quantum mechanics in space — invest US$1 billion | Where does the shift from quantum to classical reality take place? To find out, physicists are testing whether molecules of ever-larger size behave like waves. When these particles are shot through narrow slits, they produce a striped interference pattern, just like light or water waves would.  Source: nature.   Test quantum mechanics in space — invest US$1 billion…

Octave-Spanning Combs Developed in Aluminum Nitride Resonator | Collaborators from Ireland and China have demonstrated a method to develop an octave-spanning coherent optical comb with a much lower pump power compared with other techniques that require complicated controlling equipment. The photonic system introduced by the collaborators to create broadband optical combs with high coherence is an enabling technology for optical communications, with applicability to optical frequency synthesis, optical clocks, dual-comb spectroscopy, and lidar.  Source: PHOTONICS MEDIA.   Octave-Spanning Combs Developed in Aluminum Nitride Resonator…

What is entanglement purification? | Entanglement purification is a quantum network protocol used to improve the quality of entanglement and counteract the impact of noise. As entangled states are propagated across a quantum network, they accumulate noise, which reduces entanglement quality. Purification helps combat noise by producing a small number of high-quality pairs from a series of low-quality pairs.  Source: Aliro.   What is entanglement purification…

Researchers create powerful quantum source with meta-lens array | Researchers for the first time have demonstrated a quantum light source based on a meta-lens array. The approach offers a promising platform for both high-dimensional photon entanglement and the coherent control of multiple photons, making it suitable for advancing quantum technologies for secure communication, computing, and other applications.  Source: PHYS.ORG.   Researchers create powerful quantum source with meta-lens array…
