Rigetti Sets Stage for Quantum Advantage on a High-Impact, Operationally Relevant Challenge
Rigetti Computing, a pioneer in hybrid quantum-classical computing, announced it has developed an effective solution to a weather modeling problem using quantum computers. Building on existing machine learning workflows, the company applied a combination of classical and quantum machine learning techniques to produce high-quality synthetic weather radar data and improve classical models for storm prediction. The work was performed on Rigetti’s 32-qubit system, demonstrating that practical applications are within reach for near-term quantum hardware.

The GPU Strikes Back: Math Catches Up to Google’s Quantum Supremacy Claim
In 2019, word filtered out that a quantum computer built by Google had performed calculations that the company claimed would be effectively impossible to replicate on supercomputing hardware. That turned out to not be entirely correct, since Google had neglected to consider the storage available to supercomputers; if that were included, the quantum computer’s lead shrank to just a matter of days.

Classiq to Collaborate with The Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Quantum Applications
Classiq, which provides a breakthrough Quantum Algorithm Design platform, announced that it is collaborating with the Fraunhofer Institute, the leading organization for applied research in Europe, as well as other major academic centers, on the development of software for industrial use of quantum computers.
Material-Design Tools Taking On Quantum Monte Carlo Methods, Approximation of the Schrodinger Equation
A multi-institutional effort that includes researchers from Argonne, Lawrence Berkeley, and Oak Ridge National Laboratories is now underway to prepare QMCPACK for deployment on forthcoming, GPU-powered exascale machines, including the ALCF’s Aurora supercomputer. The greatly expanded computational power and parallelism of exascale will enable predictive capabilities far beyond the capacity of QMCPACK’s current implementation.
