Australia’s Quantum Computer Engineer Shortage

Australia’s Quantum Computer Engineer Shortage

With Australia vying for the global lead in quantum computing, recent quantum computing academy hubs and center openings have made the need for capable students to fill those facilities clear. It has become quite obvious the lack of a qualified pool of prospective personnel (i.e. qualified students) places higher risk of failure on the Aussie quantum gamble. The New South Wales government supports the Quantum Academy for its described purpose of creating the quantum computing engineers to drive the industry in Australia. What is needed are part quantum physicist, part auto-mobile mechanic, students. This report sheds some light on a critical, non-technical piece to the budding quantum computing industry Down Under.
