What’s the First Thing You’d Do with A Quantum Computer?
How about mine Bitcoin or other crypto-currency? That’s one idea, perhaps not so far-fetched. Though we’re at roughly 50 qubits in quantum power now; the Bitcoin breaking estimate is from 4,000 qubits on up. Will quantum-safe algorithms be developed and implemented in time? How about the hacker or nation-state that has retained all the “unbreakable” encrypted data they’ve captured? Is breaking the encryption as simple as waiting for the arrival of the quantum computer?
